How Emirates prepares 22,500 meals for their customers
Whenever you disembark an Emirates airline, the first question you will get asked is about the food. So let us take you today to discover how Emirates airline prepares its 225000 meals per day.
All the food, snacks are prepared inside the Emirates Flight Catering Facility and this is a place which never stops. It has 1800 chefs from all over the world who run the kitchen 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
So How Does Such A Massive Operation Works?
Firstly they pay huge emphasis on sanitation. Everyone who goes in needs to sanitize himself completely. They clean and sanitize 3.1 million pieces of utensils every day to be reused again in the day’s flights. Once the cart gets clean it's ready for the next journey up in the skies. They have a huge monorail system that takes the carts filled with equipment and the food to different points in the facility as needed. This type of technology is needed to get things around and make sure things happen on time. If anyone enters the kitchen again, sanitation is a must for them again which is on a next level of full body sanitation.

The Two Different Kitchens
The kitchen that prepares the entire Emirates flight meals is subdivided into two kitchens. The hot kitchen and the cold kitchen.
The hot kitchen is further separated into 4 separate kitchens. The Indian kitchen, the Far East Asian kitchen, the Continental kitchen and the Arabic kitchen.
In the cold kitchen, everything gets sliced, diced ready to go and it’s done from there. Prepared and packaged to send them to the flight. Sandwiches are prepared and made here, then they are transported from the conveyor belt and get wrapped in plastic. Finally they get x-rayed through an x-ray machine.
The Sweet Corner
For a sweet ending to this kitchen tour, let us take you to the pastry section where all the desserts, puddings and pastries are made with love and the latest technology.

The Chiller Section
After being prepared and before sending to the flight, each and everything is sent to a chiller so that it stays in a safe temperature so that when it goes up the plane, it is ready to be served. And let’s take you on a virtual tour of the chiller too. About 53000 items ranging from juice and foods and packed goods come right here to the chiller to be sent to the flights loading area. And this is where it all comes to an end.
The Final Destination
We say goodbye to all the food, carts, hard work, quality control that every single person in this airline puts into the food that we all eat on their flights. This food is all sent up in a truck which is backed to the wall of the flight and gets sent out anywhere between two and a half to three hours before the flight takes off.
