In a global survey, 78% of New Yorkers described their city as the most exciting place on earth — the highest score recorded among all destinations included in the study. The city’s culinary scene also played a significant role in its ranking, with 91% of locals praising the quality and diversity of its restaurants. Meanwhile, museums, galleries, and cultural institutions received an even higher approval rating of 93%, reflecting New York’s status as one of the world’s leading cultural capitals.

The ranking was based on feedback from more than 24,000 people living in 150 different cities worldwide. Participants evaluated affordability, food options, quality of life, and the overall atmosphere. These findings were then combined with insights from over 100 urban experts to create a list that not only inspires travel plans but also offers a broader perspective on what makes a city enjoyable to live in and explore.

New York’s recent accolades don’t end there. In 2025, the Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook was also recognized internationally, named one of the coolest districts in the world — further reinforcing the city’s reputation as a trendsetting destination.
