UAE named one of the world's best countries for 2026
The United Arab Emirates has achieved a significant international milestone by securing a place among the world's ten most highly regarded nations in the 2026 Best Countries rankings. The UAE placed 10th overall, making it the only Arab country to feature in the global top ten and the highest-ranked nation in the Middle East.
The annual ranking, produced by the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in collaboration with WPP and the Brand Asset Valuator (BAV) platform, evaluates how countries are viewed worldwide across a broad range of factors that influence tourism, investment, trade and global influence.
One of the UAE's most notable achievements was ranking first globally in the "Rising Power" category, which measures perceptions of a country's future economic potential. The nation received a perfect score of 100, highlighting strong international confidence in its long-term growth trajectory and economic development.
Now celebrating its tenth edition, the Best Countries report has become one of the most respected studies of national reputation. Rather than focusing solely on economic statistics, the ranking considers how countries are perceived across numerous attributes that shape their global appeal and competitiveness.
The 2026 report examined 85 countries that collectively account for approximately 93.2% of global GDP and 78.4% of the world's population. The findings were based on feedback from more than 15,000 respondents across 33 countries, including business leaders and members of the public.
Participants assessed nations across 73 characteristics grouped into ten key categories, including entrepreneurship, cultural influence, quality of life, business friendliness, agility, social purpose, power and future growth potential.
With an overall score of 86.5 points, the UAE ranked ahead of several major economies, including the United States, which finished in 11th position. The overall list was led by Switzerland, followed by Japan, Sweden, Canada, Australia, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Norway.
Within the Middle East, the UAE maintained a clear lead over its regional counterparts. Saudi Arabia ranked 29th globally, while Egypt and Turkey placed 32nd and 33rd, respectively.
The country's strongest performance came from the Rising Power category, where it achieved the highest possible score. This metric reflects expectations for future economic momentum and aligns closely with long-term growth forecasts and international brand valuation models used by leading global organizations.
Beyond future growth prospects, the UAE also performed strongly in several other categories. It ranked eighth worldwide for cultural influence, tenth for power, eleventh for entrepreneurship, seventeenth for agility, and nineteenth for openness to business. These results underline the country's ability to combine economic strength, investment attractiveness, and international reach.
According to the report, the UAE's economy is valued at approximately $509 billion. On a purchasing power parity basis, GDP per capita stands at around $78,260, while the country's population is estimated at 9.5 million.
The report highlighted the UAE's remarkable evolution from a regional trading center into a major global hub for business, tourism, and investment. This transformation has been supported by economic diversification across sectors such as finance, aviation, real estate, and tourism, as well as by its strategic location and the influence of its sovereign wealth funds.
As the UAE continues to strengthen its global standing, the latest ranking reinforces its position as one of the world's most dynamic economies and a leading destination for business, innovation and international investment.
