Facebook users are unable to access their accounts this afternoon as the social media platform experiences a serious outage.

Messenger and Instagram are also down with thousands getting error messages when they try to access the sites and apps. Users on the website downforeveryoneorjustme.com issued a massive spike in reports, with 9,245 at 2pm reporting trouble accessing the Meta software.

Users from the UK, Germany, the US, the Philippines, Australia and Bulgaria were among those reporting issues accessing the app today.

Facebook 'working properly' for some

Some Facebook users say they're now able to use the app properly after being automatically logged out.

Taking to X, one person wrote: "Facebook is back now in my phone. I updated my app and it is working properly now."

Another added: "Got kicked off of Facebook earlier, was so angry! Then about 10 minutes later all of Meta went out. Just relieved to have my Facebook account back."
