NYC Is About to Feel Colder Than Alaska

Brace yourselves, New Yorkers — a wave of Arctic air is heading our way, and it’s about to feel even colder here than it does in Anchorage, Alaska. Get ready for icy winds, freezing nights, and a serious blast of deep winter chill early next week.

Time to dig out those heavy coats!

No, you won’t see a moose on Fifth Avenue (probably), and a dogsled might not be your daily commute just yet, but the city is about to experience an Alaskan-level freeze. Temperatures are set to plummet, making it feel like NYC has suddenly relocated far north.

According to AccuWeather, this Arctic front will settle in by Tuesday. The high for the day? A frosty 25°F — but with the wind chill, it will feel more like a biting 14°F. After sunset, it only gets more intense. The nighttime low will drop to 18°F, but the RealFeel® could dip to 9°F — cold enough to sting any exposed skin in minutes.

For comparison, Anchorage will actually be warmer than New York City on the same day. While their high is expected to reach 27°F, the calm winds will make it feel closer to 32°F. That’s significantly milder than NYC’s bone-chilling feel.

Even overnight, Anchorage holds the edge. Their low of 16°F will feel more like 23°F — practically balmy compared to the Big Apple’s RealFeel® in the single digits. So while Alaska keeps its frosty image, it’s New Yorkers who’ll be battling the worst of the cold next week.

The perfect time to enjoy hot drinks, cozy cafes, and quiet, snowy streets. Bundle up — layer those thermals, grab your thickest scarves and hats, and get ready to embrace NYC at its wintry best.
