A study by Codacons that analyzed the cost of living in major Italian cities, comparing the prices of different goods and services, confirmed that Milan is the Italian city with the highest cost of living while Naples is the city where the cost of food shopping is the lowest .

The Codacons cost-of-living survey compared prices for a basket of goods and services ranging from meat to fruits and vegetables, including dentists, hairdressers and bars.
In particular, the average purchase of food in Milan costs 99.24 euros, compared to 67.58 euros in Naples, while the Neapolitan city has the highest waste rate in Italy (507.96 euros), 148% more than in Trento.
Furthermore, an espresso costs an average of € 1.24 in Trento, while in Catanzaro just € 0.82. On the other hand, Bari is the city where a haircut costs more, namely 26.48 euros versus 11.80 euros in Naples, while the cheapest city to go to the dentist is Palermo, where a filling costs about 66 euros, compared to 174 euros in Aosta. In addition, a private visit to the gynecologist costs less in the south of Italy, i.e. about 80 euros in Naples and 95 euros in Catanzaro, compared to Trento and Milan, where it costs 155 euros.
