New York Boasts the 2nd Most Alluring Accent in the U.S.

Think New Yorkers already have enough swagger? Well, get ready for that confidence to spike—because it turns out their accent is one of the most attractive in the nation.

According to a recent study, the unmistakable New York accent has officially claimed the title of the second sexiest accent in the United States. Yep, that iconic urban drawl we hear on city streets, in films, and from beloved characters across pop culture now comes with some extra charm points.

The research was conducted by PennStakes, utilizing insights from Brandwatch to delve into how people perceive different regional accents nationwide. They monitored social media and online chatter about 50 popular American accents over a year. What were they looking for? Words that ooze attraction—terms like sexy, seductive, charming, naughty, hot, and provocative.

They then ranked the accents based on how often these sultry descriptors popped up next to each one. And while New York made a bold showing, there was one accent that edged it out.

The southern drawl stole the spotlight, earning the top spot with a massive 76,940 keyword hits. There’s something about that slow, sweet cadence that people can’t resist—it’s warm, inviting, and often associated with hospitality and old-school romance.

But New York was hot on its heels, clocking in at an impressive 70,460 mentions. The study praised the city’s signature R-dropping tone, which conveys a vibe of confidence, edge, and that unmistakable “don’t mess with me” attitude. It’s gritty, it’s bold, and clearly, it’s sexy.

This is a significant win considering New York’s accent wasn’t always seen in such a flattering light. Just last year, a different study by Highland Titles ranked it as the least attractive accent in the world. Talk about a glow-up!
