Shanghai to New York in two hours! China joins the hypersonic flight race.

The Chinese technology company Space Transportation (also known as Beijing Lingkong Tianxing Technology) announced that it wants to have a full commercial supersonic aircraft service in operation by 2030.

Space Transportation plans to develop aircraft that will travel at speeds of up to 7,000 kilometers per hour and will be able to travel the distance from Shanghai to New York - a flight of about 15 hours - in just two hours! Such a speed would be more than three times faster than the Concorde aircraft, which offered flights of 2,179 km/hour at supersonic speeds. These are speeds of one mile per second! If an aircraft goes so fast, it becomes an official "ultrasound" - meaning it exceeds five times the speed of sound.

According to a video released by the Chinese company, its commercial aircraft are more like space rockets than traditional aircraft. It shows passengers boarding a plane with two huge rocket boosters attached to a giant triangular para glider-like wing. The plane decouples from the wing after takeoff and soars through suborbital space. The wing and boosters return to the launch pad, while the plane continues in place and lands vertically. Finally, the passengers in the video board the plane just like an average aircraft and do not appear to need oxygen masks or space suits.
