These are the best US airlines, according to a new report

Delta Air Lines has once again taken the crown as the top airline in the United States, according to the 2025 Best Airlines Report by The Points Guy (TPG). For the seventh consecutive year, Delta led the pack thanks to its strong performance across multiple categories, including reliability, customer service, and in-flight experience.

While Delta didn’t lead in every single metric—falling behind some rivals in terms of affordability and the value of its SkyMiles rewards program—it still delivered a well-rounded performance that placed it at the top overall. The report highlighted Delta's consistency, noting its dependable flight schedules and the smooth experience it provides from check-in to touchdown.

This year’s rankings saw some interesting shakeups. United Airlines climbed to second place, up from third last year. According to the report, this boost was mainly due to strides made in both operational reliability and passenger comfort.

Southwest Airlines also showed improvement, jumping from fifth to third place. Meanwhile, Hawaiian Airlines rose two spots to land in fifth place, signaling a growing strength in service and performance.

In contrast, American Airlines suffered a significant decline this year, dropping from fourth place to seventh. The report highlighted that America has been lagging behind competitors like Delta and United in several areas, particularly in terms of profitability and premium services, including upgraded cabin features and lounge amenities.

Alaska Airlines, another previously high-ranked contender, dropped from second to fourth place.
