There are incredible destinations in Europe known worldwide such as Big Ben in London, Eiffel Tower in Paris or Coliseum in Rome. But, Europe also has thousands of hidden treasures that you have to explore when you visit one of its interesting and beautiful cities.
When we are thinking of Venice, what come in mind are the unique canals with the gondoliers and the ancient bridges, the tasty traditional food, the beautiful piazzas. What you would never think to visit in such a romantic city is a bookshop. But, Libreria Acqua Alta is not an ordinary bookshop; this unknown treasure is the perfect place for a book lover. Located in Calle Lunga Santa Maria Formosa, it’s the only place in the world with a huge selection of new and used books that are stored in very special shelves such as gondolas, boats, canoes and even bath tubs and between interesting decorations. This is due to the fact that when Venice’s Grand Canal rises, the ground floor of most buildings gets flooded and books must be protected from the water. And with regard to the name of the bookshop, Libreria Acqua Alta literally means ‘’library of high water’’.
There you can find books of all kinds in different languages and after 16 years Luigi Frizzo opened this unique shop, Libreria Acqua Alta has become a must-visit for locals and tourists in Venice.
