Tourist Police honour driver for his honesty in returning AED 10,000 to a tourist
A taxi driver in Dubai has been praised for his honesty after returning AED 10,000 that a visitor accidentally left behind while rushing to catch a flight.
The recognition came from Dubai Police's Tourist Police Department, which honoured driver Geoffrey Ezra Omos for his integrity and quick response in helping a traveller recover a bag containing cash and personal belongings.
According to Dubai Police, the incident occurred when a tourist was heading to Dubai International Airport for a departing flight. In the rush to reach the terminal on time, the traveller unknowingly left a small bag inside the taxi. The bag contained AED 10,000 along with several personal items.
Realising the loss shortly afterwards, the tourist contacted the Tourist Police Department and requested urgent assistance, hoping the bag could be found before boarding the flight.
Authorities immediately began coordinating efforts to locate the taxi driver. After being contacted, Omos confirmed that the bag was still inside his vehicle and that the money remained untouched. Understanding the urgency of the situation, he promptly returned to the airport and handed the bag over to officers.
The Tourist Police then reunited the visitor with the lost belongings before the flight departed.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abdul Rahman, Director of the Tourist Police Department, together with Captain Ahmed Mohammed Al Muhairi, Head of the Tourist Happiness Section, presented a certificate of appreciation to the driver. Officials commended his honesty, professionalism, and commitment to doing the right thing.
The grateful tourist expressed appreciation for the support provided by Dubai Police and highlighted the strong culture of honesty and trust that visitors can experience in Dubai.
Incidents such as this continue to reinforce Dubai's reputation as a safe and welcoming destination for international travellers.
