easyJet alert for all Spain, France, Greece and Italy travel
Travelers heading to popular European destinations such as Spain, France, Greece, and Italy are advised to prepare for possible delays following a recent update from easyJet.
The airline has informed passengers that changes at border control across Europe could affect waiting times at airports. In a notice released earlier in April, easyJet highlighted that more than 100 airports may be impacted by the introduction of the new European Entry/Exit System (EES).
This updated system means that travelers entering certain countries may need to go through additional checks. These could include biometric procedures such as facial image scans and fingerprint collection, which are expected to slow down the passport control process.
To help manage the situation, easyJet recommends that passengers download its mobile app to receive real-time updates, including boarding gate announcements. The airline also stresses the importance of carrying all required travel documents and arriving at the airport with extra time.
Importantly, these extended checks won’t only apply when entering EU countries. Travelers should also expect similar procedures when leaving, which could mean return journeys take longer than usual. easyJet is therefore encouraging passengers to allow additional time when heading back home.
The airline also noted that the European Union is gradually introducing a mobile app that may allow travelers to pre-register for the EES system. However, availability varies by country, so passengers should confirm whether the feature is supported for their destination before downloading it.
The Entry/Exit System will be implemented across 29 countries, including major destinations such as Spain, France, Greece, and Italy, as well as Germany, Portugal, and the Netherlands.
While Greece is part of this system, there is currently an exception in place. According to the Greek Embassy in London, British passport holders are not required to provide biometric data for now when entering the country.
