Rescue teams search waters near San Siro after a boat outing ends in an emergency.

A British tourist remains missing in Italy’s Lake Como following an incident on Monday, 21 September. Divers, rescue boats and a helicopter have been involved in efforts to locate him, and specialist underwater equipment has been requested to assist the search.

The incident happened at approximately 1.30 pm near San Siro, on the lake’s western shore. According to an updated report from local outlet Prima Como, the man entered the water after seeing a father and his teenage son struggling while swimming from a rented boat. The vessel was reportedly around 600 meters offshore.

A passing boat brought the father and son to safety, and both were reported to be suffering from hypothermia. The British man disappeared beneath the surface.

Prima Como reported that the teenager’s mother and a younger child had stayed aboard the rented vessel. The mother contacted emergency services after the man vanished. The Italian Coast Guard’s operational unit in Milan coordinated search operations.

Details of what happened remain uncertain. While Prima Como described an attempted rescue, other reports said the missing tourist had been swimming with the teenager before the father entered the water to help. Reports also gave differing ages for those involved.

The reports reviewed on 22 September continued to describe the tourist as missing. Investigators are still investigating the circumstances behind his disappearance.
