A friendly conversation with cabin crew might brighten your journey, but it isn’t necessarily an invitation to flirt. One flight attendant has shared her advice for passengers who feel a spark: give crew members space to do their jobs.

Tyra, who posts on TikTok as @wheelsupwithtyra, explained that being approached romantically during a flight can put an attendant in an uncomfortable position. While a passenger may see an opportunity to connect, the person serving them still has to remain polite and professional.

That obligation makes the situation awkward. A crew member’s friendly response should not be mistaken for personal interest, particularly when they are working and cannot easily step away from the interaction.

Her suggestion: leave your number as you leave

For passengers who want to express interest, Tyra suggested a less intrusive approach: hand over your phone number when getting off the aircraft.

The key is giving the other person a choice without requiring an immediate answer. Once the passenger has left, the flight attendant can decide whether they want to make contact, without the pressure of continuing to serve that person throughout the journey.

It also avoids turning the rest of a flight into an uncomfortable encounter after an unwanted advance.

Respect the workplace—and the response.

Not everyone welcomed Tyra’s advice. One commenter objected to being told when to approach someone. In response, she explained that she was offering guidance and suggested that being considerate of a flight attendant’s workplace could improve how an approach is received.

Her suggestion reflects one crew member’s perspective, not a universal rule or a guarantee of romantic success. The broader point is about respecting someone’s ability to choose whether to engage.
