Horror as two planes collide in terrifying smash at major airport
Chilling images have emerged.
Two planes have collided at a major airport as witnesses describe the terrifying moment the aircraft made contact. A Delta Air Lines Flight 7 was taxiing for departure when it collided with an Air Canada Flight 875 at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The Delta Air's left wingtip clipped the horizontal stabiliser of the other plane on Tuesday. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said: “The Air Canada flight was being towed when it stopped short of its gate.”
Live arrival traffic at LAX is experiencing delays of around 15 minutes, but it remains unclear whether these delays are directly caused by the collision. FlightAware said a total of 26 flights at the airport were delayed as of 1pm local time, while two were cancelled.
Both airlines have issued statements saying that the two planes “made contact”. They also added that no injuries were reported.
Delta said there were 275 customers and 15 crew members on board the plane at the time. Air Canada said its plane is out of service for inspection and repairs. Delta said its maintenance crews and airport teams will assess the aircraft.
The Delta Air Lines jet was about to depart, while the Air Canada plane had arrived from Toronto. The FAA said in a statement that it was investigating the incident, which occurred at 10.30 am local time.
