Nanny, 24, killed in Learjet crash made final call to sister minutes before plane plunged 35,000ft
Angie Ramirez Cetina's last conversation with her sister, Ana Maria, was filled with excitement about a trip to the Bahamas. During a video call before departure, the 24-year-old nanny showed Angie the children she cared for and the aircraft they were about to board.
Ana Maria, also known as Anita, was among nine people killed when a Learjet 60 crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, on November 1, 2026. The aircraft was traveling from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas.
According to Angie’s account to The Sun, her sister was looking forward to visiting the islands for the first time. Although she was accompanying the family for work, she took great pleasure in caring for the children and felt deeply attached to them.
Also aboard were technology entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife Helen Sharp, their daughter Emma, four, and son Charlie, two. Fellow passengers Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr died alongside the family and the aircraft’s two pilots. Relatives confirmed the passengers’ identities in a statement following the crash.
Ana Maria had trained as a biomedical engineer in Colombia before moving to the United States in search of better opportunities. Her sister told Colombian media that she had struggled to have her qualifications recognized and subsequently found work as a nanny.
For Angie, the loss is also inseparable from memories of her own son’s arrival. She recalled how Ana Maria supported her during pregnancy, childbirth, and recovery, forming a loving bond with her nephew.
Angie said she initially resisted believing her sister could have been aboard after seeing footage of the crash online. Their mother later confirmed the devastating news.
In their tribute, the passengers’ relatives described Ana Maria as a devoted caregiver who had become part of the family. They also thanked emergency responders and the local community, while asking for privacy as they mourned.
Federal investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash. Reports of icing and severe turbulence formed part of the flight’s final communications, but those details alone do not establish what caused the aircraft to go down.
For Ana Maria’s loved ones, lasting memories include her affection for the children in her care, her closeness to her sister, and the happiness she shared during their final conversation.
