When every major London Christmas lights display will turn on for 2026

London’s Christmas season arrives one illuminated street at a time. Throughout November, shopping districts, riverside destinations and gardens unveil their festive displays, giving visitors plenty of opportunities to enjoy the capital after dark.

Some locations celebrate with a countdown and live entertainment. Others mark the start of a longer seasonal program, with decorations, illuminated trails and attractions opening on a particular date.

From the West End’s overhead lights to evening walks through Kew, here’s your guide to the displays and dates announced for 2026.

Details checked on 29 October 2026. Check the organizer’s latest information before traveling, particularly where timings remain unconfirmed.

The West End: early November celebrations

St Martin’s Lane — Tuesday 3 November

St Martin’s Lane is among the first destinations in this guide to welcome the festive season. Its Christmas lights are scheduled to switch on at 4.45 pm, with the evening’s celebrations offering a chance to combine a visit with dinner or a theatre outing.

Regent Street — Thursday 5 November

The familiar illuminated spirits return above Regent Street, with new details promised for 2026. The street will be closed to traffic between 5 pm and 9 pm on opening night, allowing visitors to enjoy the decorations alongside entertainment and special experiences in participating shops.

Oxford Street — date awaiting clear official confirmation

Harry Potter-inspired illuminations will join Oxford Street’s signature stars this Christmas, following a partnership with HBO Max.

The switch-on date needs a final check before making plans: Time Out lists 4 November, but the organizer’s announcement reviewed for this guide says switch-on details will follow.

Shopping districts and neighborhood festivities

Knightsbridge — Tuesday 10 November

Brompton Road and nearby streets will brighten up with more than 12,000 lights. The designs reference the area’s equestrian connections, adding local character to the festive decorations.

Marylebone Village — Wednesday 11 November

Marylebone’s annual celebration combines the lights with an afternoon and evening of seasonal activities. Expect food and gift stalls, a Ferris wheel and family entertainment during the 3 pm–8 pm event. The switch-on is scheduled for 6 pm, with a special guest still to be announced.

Covent Garden — Thursday 12 November

Theatre takes center stage at Covent Garden this Christmas. Alongside the returning oversized bells, baubles and mirror balls, a new collection of Christmas trees will celebrate West End productions including SIX, MAMMA MIA! and Moulin Rouge! The Musical.

The scale is impressive: around 300,000 LED lights will illuminate the surrounding streets, while the main Christmas tree carries more than 30,000 lights.

Bond Street — Thursday 12 November

Bond Street will host a traffic-free celebration from 4 pm to 8 pm, with a brass band accompanying the countdown. The organizer currently gives a switch-on window of 6 pm–7 pm, so arriving earlier will leave time to enjoy the atmosphere before the lights appear.

Chelsea — tree-lighting celebration on Thursday 12 November

Chelsea’s Duke of York Square will host a Christmas tree-lighting event from 5 pm to 7.30 pm, with carols and seasonal entertainment.

This should not be confused with a confirmed switch-on for all of King’s Road: reporting on the local program says that a separate date remains unannounced.

Riverside lights and City landmarks

Battersea Power Station — from Thursday 5 November

Battersea’s festive program begins on 5 November, bringing decorations both inside and around the former power station. Look for Art Deco-inspired chandeliers in Turbine Hall A, retro decorations in Turbine Hall B, giant candy canes along Electric Boulevard and a 40-foot Christmas tree in Malaysia Square.

Fulham Pier — Thursday 12 November

Fulham Pier is listed for a festive opening celebration on 12 November. Published event listings give a 5 pm start and a 7 pm light show; check the venue’s program for the latest entertainment announcements before heading down.

Fleet Street Quarter — Wednesday 18 November

Fleet Street’s celebrations will bring a playful Beano theme to the City. Alongside the lights at Ludgate Circus, a free Dennis and Gnasher sculpture trail will introduce 12 individually decorated installations across the neighborhood.

Leadenhall Market — Thursday 19 November

Leadenhall’s Victorian surroundings provide the setting for festive garlands, an illuminated tunnel and a 26-foot Christmas tree. The lights are scheduled to come on at 6 pm, with live music and a snow effect adding to the opening-night celebrations.

Light trails and larger festive attractions

Christmas at Kew — from Friday 13 November

Christmas at Kew opens on 13 November and runs on selected evenings until 3 January 2027. Expect illuminated installations, tunnels of color and music throughout the gardens.

This is a separately ticketed evening event, and booking is essential. Ordinary daytime admission does not include the Christmas trail.

Hyde Park Winter Wonderland — from Thursday 19 November

Winter Wonderland opens on 19 November and continues until 3 January 2027, closing on Christmas Day. Its opening date marks the start of a full festive attraction, rather than a standalone street-lighting ceremony, with rides, shows and seasonal food among the reasons to visit.

Chelsea Winter Village & Illuminations — from Wednesday 25 November

At the Royal Hospital Chelsea, the winter celebrations begin on 25 November and run until 28 December. Set in Ranelagh Gardens, the event brings an illuminated seasonal experience to the historic grounds. Check the booking options for the light trail when planning your visit.

Planning your evening

Decide whether you want the excitement of a switch-on or an evening exploring displays once they are already illuminated. Opening-night celebrations have specific schedules, while ticketed trails require more planning.

For a West End outing, consider grouping Carnaby Street, Regent Street, Bond Street, and Covent Garden into a walking route once the displays open. For Kew and the larger seasonal attractions, choose your date and check entry requirements first.
