London has once again proven why it is considered one of the world's greatest cultural capitals. With its outstanding collection of museums, galleries, and creative spaces, the British capital has been recognized as the top city globally for art in Time Out's latest ranking of the world's best cultural destinations.

The recognition follows a worldwide survey of more than 24,000 people, who were asked to evaluate the cultural scene in their cities. Among all the destinations included, London received the highest score for its art galleries, confirming its reputation as a paradise for art lovers.

According to the survey, 81.1% of London residents believe that art galleries are the city's greatest cultural strength. The capital comfortably outperformed other major cultural hubs, with Paris finishing second at 67.9% and New York taking third place with 67.7%.

One of London's biggest advantages is the incredible variety of galleries available to visitors. World-famous institutions such as the National Gallery, Tate Modern, Tate Britain, the Barbican, and the Hayward Gallery attract millions of visitors every year. Alongside these iconic venues, the city is also home to respected collections including the Courtauld Gallery, Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), the Serpentine Galleries, and the Wallace Collection. For those looking to explore beyond the most popular attractions, galleries such as the South London Gallery, Camden Art Centre, and Autograph offer equally rewarding experiences.

London's cultural landscape has become even richer in 2026 thanks to several important openings. New attractions including V&A East, the Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, and the Museum of Youth Culture have expanded the city's artistic offering, while the highly anticipated London Museum is scheduled to open at Smithfield in November.

The city's museums also received exceptional praise. In the same survey, 88.4% of Londoners rated the capital's museums highly, placing London third worldwide in this category, behind only Paris and Madrid.

This recognition comes as Time Out celebrates ten years of publishing its annual rankings of the world's best cities. Although London ranked fourth overall in the global list, it claimed the number one position when the rankings focused exclusively on cultural experiences.
